Well definitely it can vary. Let me share mine. Before Coal came into my life, I dreamed of a golden brown dog. He did not appear as a husky, but as an ancient guardian spirit, warm in color and deeply familiar to my soul. Later, when Coal arrived, I understood that some beings find us first in spirit before they ever step into our physical reality.
During my astral travels at night, I have often seen his spirit swirling around my bed, protecting the energy of the space around me. Over time, I began to notice a deeper pattern within the spiritual realms: dogs seem to guard the human realm, anchoring protection, loyalty, and grounded presence, while cats move through the unseen realms, sensing energies hidden beyond ordinary perception. Together, my animals feel like sacred guardians walking beside me between worlds. I believe my soul needed both forms of protection for the path I walk.
I have had three golden dogs throughout my life. Because I have always been a wandering soul, constantly moving through different chapters and places, it was painful each time I had to guide them away when I could not bring them with me. Every goodbye carried a lesson about love, attachment, and the temporary nature of physical journeys.
But Coal became different.
Coal is the one I finally kept beside me. The one who journeyed with me into the life and home I was meant to anchor into. In many ways, he reflects a deeper healing within my own soul. He was adopted and carried abandonment wounds of his own, and through love, patience, and family, we helped him slowly heal those fears. What touches me deeply is how perfectly this mirrors my own ancestral line, where many souls were also adopted, displaced, or searching for belonging.
Life has a mysterious way of bringing souls together that carry matching lessons. Animals are never accidental companions. Each one arrives carrying teachings, healing, and gifts for our evolution, whether we consciously realize it or not. Their love becomes woven into the fabric of our spirit.
Coal was never just a pet to me.
He was a guardian, a mirror, and a soul contract fulfilled in divine timing.
